Before you start

Slowing a clip to 0.5× doubles how long the action takes, which makes fast movement such as a jump, a trick or a splash easy to follow. It works best on a short moment rather than a whole clip.

How smooth it looks depends on how the clip was filmed. Footage shot at 30 fps has fewer frames to stretch, so when you slow down a 30 fps clip Creovia Creator shows a hint: for smooth slow motion, record at 60 fps.

  1. Step 1

Start a blank project and add your clip

Choose a clip with visible movement. The video tutorial uses a dance shot so the difference between normal speed and half speed is easy to see.

  2. Step 2

Select the clip and open Speed

Tap the clip on the timeline, then choose Speed from the clip tools. This tutorial changes the speed of the selected clip.

  3. Step 3

    Set the clip to 0.5×

Choose half speed and confirm the change. The same action now takes twice as long, so leave enough room for it in your edit.

  4. Step 4

    Preview the slower movement

Play the clip in the editor and compare it with the original pace. If a particular action feels too slow, adjust the rate before exporting.

  5. Step 5

Export and check the saved result

Open Export, choose the Instagram Reels preset, and save to Gallery. Watch the exported video to confirm the motion looks right.

Quick answers

How do I slow down one clip?
Select that clip on the timeline, open Speed, set it to 0.5×, and preview the movement before exporting.
What does 0.5× speed do?
Half speed makes the action take twice as long. Check the new timing in the editor and in the saved video.
What speeds can I choose?
The Speed slider runs from 0.25× to 25×, with marked stops at 0.25×, 0.5×, 1×, 2×, 5×, 10× and 25×.
Why does my slow motion look choppy?
Slowing 30 fps footage to 0.5× holds each frame twice as long, which can look jerky. Record at 60 fps when you plan to slow a moment down.
Can I slow down just one moment in a clip?
Yes. Split the clip at the start and end of the moment, then set only that piece to 0.5×.
