Reels, Shorts and TikTok are vertical, 9:16. A landscape clip posted as it is shows up as a thin strip with empty space above and below it. Changing the canvas to 9:16 lets the video use the whole screen.
Creovia Creator gives two ways to put a wide clip in a tall frame: Fill crops the sides so the picture covers the frame, and Fit keeps the whole picture and fills the space around it with a background.
Step 1
Add your landscape clip
Start a project with the landscape video you want to post vertically. The tutorial shows the original wide framing before the change.
Step 2
Choose a 9:16 canvas
Open Canvas and select 9:16, the vertical shape used by Reels and Shorts.
Step 3
Choose Fill and inspect the crop
Fill covers the vertical canvas but cuts away parts of the left and right edges. Check that the subject stays in frame throughout the clip.
Step 4
Preview and export
Play the reframed video, then export it. Compare the saved vertical result with the original landscape clip.
Quick answers
- What canvas size should I choose for Reels and Shorts?
- Choose the vertical 9:16 canvas shown in the tutorial.
- Why are the sides of my landscape clip missing?
- The Fill setting covers the vertical canvas by cropping the left and right edges. Preview the entire clip to check that the subject remains visible.
- What is the difference between Fit and Fill?
- Fill covers the whole 9:16 frame by cropping the left and right of a landscape clip. Fit keeps the full picture and fills the space above and below with a background: a solid colour, a blurred copy of the clip, an image or a video.
- Which other shapes can I choose?
- Canvas also offers Feed 4:5 and Square 1:1 for Instagram feed posts, YouTube 16:9, and Source, which keeps the clip's original shape.
- Does resizing change my original video?
- No. The new shape applies to the project and to the video you export. The clip in your Gallery stays as it was.
