Before you start

Split cuts one clip into two at the playhead. On its own that changes nothing you can see; it is what lets you delete a section from the middle, move part of a clip, or give one piece a different speed or filter.

Removing a section from the middle takes two splits, one where the unwanted part starts and one where it ends, followed by a delete.

  1. Step 1

Add a clip to a blank project

Choose the video you want to edit and place it on the timeline. Play it once to find the section you want to remove.

  2. Step 2

    Position the playhead and split

Select the clip, move the playhead to the start of the unwanted section, and tap Split. If you are removing a section in the middle, split again at its end.

  3. Step 3

Select and delete the unwanted piece

Tap the separate section you no longer need, then choose Delete. The remaining footage closes around the removed part.

  4. Step 4

    Check the join and export

Play across the new cut to make sure it lands at the right moment. Open Export, choose Instagram Reels as in the tutorial, and save to Gallery.

Quick answers

How do I remove a section from the middle of a video?
Split at the start and end of the unwanted section, select the resulting piece, and tap Delete.
What should I check after deleting the section?
Play across the new join to confirm that the cut lands at the intended moment before exporting.
What is the difference between trim and split?
Trim shortens a clip from its ends. Split cuts a clip in two at the playhead, which is how you reach footage in the middle.
Can I undo a delete?
Yes. Tap Undo in the editor to bring the deleted piece back.
Is it free?
Yes. Trimming, splitting and exporting in up to 1080p are free. Free video exports carry a small Creovia watermark, which Creovia Creator Pro removes.
