Before you start

Black and white takes colour out of the picture so light, shape and expression carry the shot. It suits strong contrast, faces and moody scenes, and it hides colour differences between clips filmed at different times.

Creovia Creator's B&W filters are Inkwell, Sepia, T-Max 400 and Acros 100. Applying one to all clips keeps the whole video consistent.

  1. Step 1

Start a project with your clips

Add every clip that should turn black and white. The tutorial uses a mountain and a forest clip so you can see the colour drop out of both.

  2. Step 2

Open Filters and choose All clips

Applying to all clips at once keeps the look consistent. One clip left in colour reads as a mistake rather than a choice.

  3. Step 3

Pick Inkwell in the B&W group

Open the B&W (black and white) group and choose Inkwell, a classic high-contrast monochrome film look.

  4. Step 4

    Hold Compare before you commit

Hold Compare to flash back to the original colours. Black and white suits shots with strong light and shape, and it can flatten a scene that relied on colour.

  5. Step 5

    Preview and export

Play the whole edit once, then open Export, choose Instagram Reels and save to Gallery.

Quick answers

How do I make a whole video black and white?
Open Filters, choose All clips, then pick Inkwell in the B&W group so every clip gets the same look.
Can I see the original colours while I choose?
Yes. Hold Compare in the Filters sheet to see the unfiltered clip, then let go to return to the filter.
Which black-and-white filters are free?
Inkwell, Sepia and T-Max 400 are free. Acros 100 needs Creovia Creator Pro.
Can I make the effect weaker?
Yes. The Filters sheet has an intensity slider. Lower it to let some of the original colour back in.
Can I make only one clip black and white?
Yes. Select that clip and apply the filter to it instead of to all clips.
